Beate Sabine

A woman alone tries to escape the poverty and persecution of post-war East Germany.

Beate Sabine Eckardt, born into Hitler’s notorious Third Reich, found herself trapped in a nation blind with hate and bent on war. Once the war ended, Sabine found herself trapped in another kind of nightmare world: the Soviet-dominated puppet state of East Germany, where freedoms were so few that citizens risked death to escape over the border blocked by a concrete wall and trigger-happy guards. For Sabine, desperation drove her to do whatever it took to break free of the bonds of communism and find her way to the New World - and a new life.

"That Was The Moment"

Born in Germany, translator and interpreter Beate Sabine Eckardt has lived in Mexico, South Africa, England, and the United States. Sabine now resides in Chicago, where she writes to the sounds of opera and classical music and "awaiting the future with hope."
